Dessert.
Of all the courses of a meal, dessert is the one I usually don’t mind going without. Call me crazy, but I crave garlic & saltiness like most women crave chocolate. There are a few exceptions.
My mother makes awesome Cinnamon Rolls. She is wildly famous for them within our family. I like the corner pieces. I’ll fight anyone that tries to take ‘em.
There is a Blackberry Cobbler I dream about from a restaurant at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. No sharing allowed.
My grandmother makes my most favorite dessert of all time: Sour Cherry Pie. When I am out grocery shopping and I spot a bag of frozen sour cherries I buy them. (They are not always easy to find.) Sweet cherries are always in the frozen section, but I’m telling you. people, sour cherries is where its at.
Last Wednesday. I wanted dessert. I wanted cinnamon rolls. I wanted cobbler. I needed Grandma’s Sour Cherry Pie. I wouldn’t survive the night without those 3 desserts. And this is what happened:

Throw it all into the pan and see what happens.
What happened? It was amazingly good.

I have an idea for a new Reality TV show. Everything is turned into reality TV these days, right?
Cupcake Throwdown OKC. Catchy, huh? A competition as to who can bake the meanest cupcake. I would totally watch.
There are cupcakeries sprouting up in OKC lately. A trend that hit other big cities first, and now is trickling on down to us. We have eaten at 5 of these cupcakeries. All different– all unique.
Episode 1 of the OKC Cupcake Throwdown focuses on Green Goodies by Tiffany.

I was “brunching” at my local Sam’s Club last week. You know. “Brunching”. That time between breakfast & lunch when Sam’s rolls out all the shiny metal carts with that day’s samples. That time when every person in the store rushes toward the frozen food section. Every man for himself! I like to wear running shoes. Gives me better traction control weaving in & out from sample station to sample station.
During the last couple years, Sam’s has been carrying some more ‘high-end’ food items. My shopping list:
- Human-sized bottle of Tide √
- Pack of 50 rolls of paper towels √
- Box of 100 Frozen Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches √
- Manchego Cheese?
- Handmade Tamales?
- Fresh Harvested 4 days ago oysters, clams, & mussels?
Gourmet cheeses, handmade food items, & fresh seafood is NOT what you would expect from Sam’s Club. But now, when I make my paper towels & laundry detergent runs to Sam’s I always swing by the food section to see what the newest ‘foodie’ item is. And for the metal cart samples, of course.

Made with Sam’s Clams!
Here’s what we need:

Meat and potatoes rule this roost.
As I was cooking dinner the other night, the song “Same Old Situation” by Motley Crue was playing in my head. Same dinner ingredients, different day.
I thought I would spice it up a bit and broaden my husband’s horizons with a new twist on an old favorite.
Voila! Potato Cakes with Corn Relish {aka: fancy hash browns} Continue reading Potato Cakes & Corn Relish →

I’m out shopping for camouflage today. I need it.
There is a pesky fly buzzing around my house.
I tried standing very. still. Watching him. He landed on the window. With all of the force of my entire body, I hurled my Better Homes & Gardens at him with the intention of squashing that pesky. buzzing. fly. I missed.
I tried pretending he wasn’t bothering me. He would buzz by my head taunting me. I let him fly by a few times. I acted as if I didn’t see him. But I did. I saw him. At the very last moment I swung my arm hoping to knock him out of mid-air ending his little game forever. I missed.
Where’s Mr. Miyagi when you need him? I googled “how to hunt flies” and discovered this contraption:

The Amazing Fly Gun. This is an actual product. I’m not joking. This may just be my next Girl’s Pokeno Night gift. I know all my girlfriends are reading this and plan on watching to see how my present is wrapped next month so they are sure to pick mine.
Right? Doesn’t everyone need an Amazing Fly Gun? Don’t worry girls- I will make up for my lousy fly gun gift with my food. Like this Edamame Hummus. Yummm!
Edamame Hummus? Is there such a thing? YES! And it is amazing!
